Choosing the Right Flooring for Your Custom Home

Here are four types of flooring to consider for your custom home.

So, you’ve decided to go through with building your custom home. It can be a fascinating process, but there are multiple steps and decisions that you must make before it all comes to fruition. One of the big decisions you must make is on what kind of flooring you want to lay down for your custom home floor. When choosing flooring, a lot of thought goes into this decision. This all includes budget, lifestyle, function, and durability. With the full range of different types of flooring available, it can be overwhelming. Here are four types of flooring to consider for your custom home.

Hardwood

Hardwood is an all-time classic due to its pleasing aesthetics and ability to warm up a room. It’s durable and completely natural as well. Hardwood can be sanded and stained over time, which allows it to maintain a good look. However, they are costly and could push over your budget if you don’t have too much to spend on one area. Hardwood is ideal for a home without pets or children, so keep this in mind when building your custom home floor.

Composite Wood

Composite, or engineered wood, is created by compressing plywood and adding a hardwood film at the top. It has the same look and feel as hardwood and is more affordable. Avoid sharp objects on it, as composite wood is susceptible to damage and warping. Composite flooring is easy to maintain, perfect for your custom home floor.

Vinyl

Vinyl flooring is the most affordable type and is available in larger sheets. Its material is also very easy to clean and maintain. However, it is difficult to repair once it’s damaged, so avoid any chemicals that may leave a potential dent on its surface. Vinyl is very low maintenance and affordable, so it is a solid choice when building your custom home floor.

Tile

Tile flooring is also an excellent addition to your custom home floor. Porcelain and natural stone are lovely choices for tile flooring. When you’re on a bit of a budget for flooring, porcelain is one of the easiest on your wallet. Tiles are typically easy to maintain and available in various textures and colors. They are also very durable, as they are excellent in high-moisture areas and handle foot traffic very well. Perfect for the kitchen or bathroom.

Take the time to consider these types of flooring when making your interior design plan. Know your budget and consult with your home builder before making any crazy decisions about your custom home floor.
