Homes are easier to clean when they use low-maintenance surfaces and appliances.  When building, take into consideration how much care will need to go into things like your flooring or your countertops.  Consider whether or not your bathroom will be easy to clean, or if windows are placed too high to practically reach and wipe down on a regular basis.  Baby boomers are interested in easy-to-clean surfaces and accessible design aspects.

 

Consider Flights of Stairs

 

It’s more practical to place commonly-used rooms on the ground floor of a home.  Typically, older homes are designed with bedrooms on the second floor, but this isn’t always the best option in terms of functionality and accessibility.  Designing a home that utilizes the idea of placing frequently accessed rooms on the first floor is a great way to attract this generation of buyers.

 

Laundry Room or Play Room?

 

A laundry room can be useful, but boomers tend to find that space useful for other purposes as time goes on.  Laundry can be done just as efficiently somewhere easily accessed and hidden away.  That space can be used for other purposes, instead!  Those with children can find it an excellent place to make crafts, and it can also make for a great exercise room.  How you present the space is up to you, but boomer buyers want to see an open area for them to use.
